Justin Bramhall

Owner, Principal

Justin is a respected Permaculture Designer and Permaculture teacher in the Tucson community and has been practicing permaculture and ecological gardening since 2008.

Justin came to the southwest from Pennsylvania to attend Prescott College in Prescott, AZ. There he received a solid foundation in both education and ecological concepts which had a strong focus on the Sonoran desert ecosystems. Through his courses he studied a diversity of regions, from the Colorado Plateau, to the various mountain ranges of California, to the snow covered peaks in Idaho, to the coastal desert and marine ecosystems along the Gulf of California in Mexico, as well as all the diverse communities throughout Arizona. All of these experiences had him develop the most basic of all skills in ecological awareness, that of observation. He received a B.A. in Education and Environmental Studies in 2009. Food justice issues and environmental sustainability peaked his interest and passion during his time in Prescott, which led him on a mission to live more in harmony with the earth.

Justin has extensive teaching and group facilitating experience with youth and adults of all backgrounds through work as a wilderness guide, environmental education presentor, and 8th grade public school science teacher. Work on a small urban biodynamic farm gave him in depth experience in what it takes to produce food for a Community Supported Agriculture farm.

Justin received his Permaculture Design Certification through the Sonoran Permaculture Guild, as well as Water Harvesting Certification, Advance Greywater Technical Training, and Stream Restoration Technical Training through Watershed Management Group, and continues to read, study, and take workshops on all aspects of permaculture and apply his learning at his homestead in downtown Tucson as well as a 40 acre property in Patagonia, AZ.

In 2012, he decided to become an agent of change and help others live more in harmony with their natural environment and founded Ahimsa Landscaping. Through this and other community projects and collaborations, his aim is to cultivate awareness of the significant grass-roots initiatives of permaculture design and how it can be used to enhance and regenerate our environments.

Desert adapted aquaponic food production has been a focus since 2010. In the spring of 2014 he received his Permaculture Design Certification from the Sonoran Permaculture Guild. Utilizing native species in integrated systems is his primary goal. Other goals are to benefit the local community with education and production of responsible resource management systems. He takes pride in working with a focus on local solutions while affecting the global community with open information sharing and the philosophy of awareness.

Andy Lacy

Crew

One who is truly bound to the powers of the wilderness and the laws of nature is the greatest way to describe Andy Lacy. As a craftsman of many abilities and an individual with an inherent finesse in the outdoors, he began his quest to further his knowledge here in Tucson in 2005. Andy was born in Ashland, Oregon and raised on his parents horse ranch where he was immersed in the Klamath Mountain Range from a young age. While being shown the ways of horse stewardship, he had many experiences exploring the mountains which led to his chief interest in primitive skills. Upon moving to the Southwest, Andy expanded his outdoor knowledge by attending the Wintercount Primitive Skills School for 4 consecutive years in order to adapt to the desert environment. Here he learned the art of desert survival focusing on tracking, leatherworking, knife making, bow making, archery, ethnobotany and herbal medicine. After being exposed to these teachings he independently sought experience with native plants, native foods, local indigenous culture, all the while crafting and selling handmade leather sandals based on a style worn by the Rarámuri people in Northern Mexico. Since 2012, Andy has been focusing on developing skills in woodworking using local woods for his projects and looks forward to one day using that expertise in natural buildings. Andy received his Permaculture Design Certification from the Sonoran Permaculture Guild in 2014. He hopes to flourish in the field of permaculture and would like to encourage a self-sustainable, localized, do-more-with-less attitude. With an emphasis on the connectivity between humans and the resources we use from the earth, Andy feels that with the right mentality society can change itself from its current state: destructive, to constructive.
